Obituary: Gregg S. Clugston
Gregg S. Clugston, 73, of East Waterford, passed away at 3:40 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2020, at the WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital from a brief battle with cancer.
Born Oct. 18, 1946, in Waterloo, Juniata County, he is a son of the late George S. and Genevieve (Jones) Clugston.
On July 3, 1965, he married his surviving wife, Kay W. (Wiser) Clugston, with whom he was blessed to share over 55 years of marriage.
He is survived by his children, Ann Darrow and her husband, Richard, of Schellsburg, Michele Clugston and her companion, Jose Morales, of Mifflintown, Rex Clugston and his wife, Maggie, of East Waterford, and Gregg Clugston, of Honey Grove; a sister, Janet Johnson, of Claymont, DE; a brother, Norman Clugston, of McVeytown; and he leaves behind eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Zeigler.
Gregg was a 1964 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown and in earlier life, was employed by the Iron Workers Local #404, Harrisburg; after which in 1976, he started Clugston Lumber Company and was self employed until the present. Mr. Clugston was a member and an elder of the Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church in Waterloo.
He served on the Upper Tuscarora Cemetery Association Board and was a member of 52 years with the Blairs Mills Lions Club where he was honored with the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was also a life member of the North America Hunting Club, member of the Winchester Arms Collectors Association, and a member of the East Waterford Fire Company.
His hobbies included a passion for sprint car racing, fishing and hunting, especially turkey hunting. He traveled to many turkey calling contests and placed second in 1978, at the Eastern Sports Show in Harrisburg. With his love of sprint car racing and as the owner of Clugston Lumber Company, he sponsored the #55 sprint car driven by Mike Wagner.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2020, at the Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, 589 Brick Church Road, East Waterford with the Rev. Darwin Goshorn officiating.
Interment will follow in the Upper Tuscarora Cemetery, Waterloo.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2020, at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, at the church.
