Madison’s Reporter: Soft Demand Drops Lumber Prices Slightly

Demand for solid wood products took a breather this week as buyers had their immediate needs covered ahead of the Easter holiday weekend.

In the week ending March 29, 2024, the price of Western S-P-F 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$452 mfbm, said forest products industry price guide newsletter Madison’s Lumber Reporter. This is flat from the previous week when it was $452.

That week’s price is up by +$8, or +2%, from one month ago when it was US$444 mfbm.

Compared to the same week last year, when it was US$356 mfbm, that week’s price is up by +$96, or +27%. Compared to two years ago when it was $1,410, that week’s price is down by -$958, or -68%.

In the week ending March 29, 2024, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$391 mfbm. This is down by -$9, or -2% from the previous week when it was US$400 mfbm.

That week’s price is down by -$14, or -4%, from one month ago when it was US$405 mfbm.

Compared to the same week last year, when it was US$542 mfbm, that week’s price is down by -$151, or -28%. Compared to two years ago when it was $1,200, this week’s price is down by -$809, or -67%.
