Madison’s Reporter: Buyer Reluctance Keeps Lumber Prices Lower

A quiet week capped off a muted month of April, as commodity prices were flat to down. Plywood prices appeared to be approaching a bottom.

In the week ending April 26, 2024, the price of Western S-P-F 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$408 mfbm, said forest products industry price guide newsletter Madison’s Lumber Reporter. This is flat from the previous week when it was $408.

That week’s price is down by -$44, or -10%, from one month ago when it was US$452 mfbm.

Compared to the same week last year, when it was US$360 mfbm, that week’s price is up by +$48, or +13%. Compared to two years ago when it was $1,060, that week’s price is down by -$652, or -62%.

In the week ending April 26, 2024, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$330 mfbm. This is down by -$10, or -3% from the previous week when it was US$340 mfbm.

That week’s price is down by -$74, or -18%, from one month ago when it was US$404 mfbm.

Compared to the same week last year, when it was US$535 mfbm, that week’s price is down by -$205, or -38%. Compared to two years’ ago when it was $815, that week’s price is down by -$485, or -60%.
