New Chair for the Sinclar Board of Directors

General News

After 14 years of dedicated leadership, Dr. Charles Jago is stepping down as Chair of the Sinclar Group Forest Products Board of Directors.

A household name in northern BC, I cannot say enough about the impact that Charles has made on the Sinclar organization. Charles is a long-serving community member of northern BC, providing leadership and valued guidance on the boards of several local institutions. He is a former President of the University of Northern British Columbia and the namesake of the Charles Jago Northern Sport Center.

Since joining our leadership team in 2010, Charles led a governance study for our Board before becoming Sinclar’s first official Board Chair. His immense knowledge and experience were instrumental in establishing strong governance practices in our multi-generational family business. During his tenure, Charles guided us through numerous challenges faced by Sinclar and the forest industry at large.

On behalf of the Sinclar Board of Directors, I express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Charles Jago for his leadership and commitment to the success of our company.

With Dr. Jago’s departure, I am pleased to introduce our new Board Chair, Betty Ann Shiels.

Betty Ann is a long-time resident of Prince George. She obtained her B. Comm from the University of Alberta in 1985 and began her career with the Prince George office of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells that same spring. She received her Chartered Accountant designation in 1988 and was an Assurance and Advisory partner with Deloitte for 20 years until her retirement in 2018, including serving as Managing Partner for the Prince George office during the last six years of her career.

Betty Ann has served on the boards of Prince George Yellowhead Rotary, UNBC Pension Plan, Progress Prince George, PG Activators Society, PG CA Association, and Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation. She was also a part-time instructor at CNC early in her career. Additionally, Betty Ann is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow for Rotary and a Fellow Chartered Accountant.

We are excited to welcome Betty Ann to her new role and look forward to her leadership in guiding Sinclar into the future.
