Madison’s Reporter: Lumber Price Trends Flat Compared to One Year Ago

The 30-day reprieve regarding tariffs on Canadian exports to the US firmly ensconced the week-to-week nature of business in North American wood products. Prices of panels further reversed course, gaining more price ground.
In the week ending February 7, 2025, the price of benchmark softwood lumber item Western Spruce-Pine-Fir 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$445 mfbm. This is flat from the previous week when it was $445, said weekly forest products industry price guide newsletter Madison’s Lumber Reporter.
That week’s price is flat from one month ago when it was $445.
Compared to the same week last year, when it was US$442 mfbm, that week’s price was up +$3, or +1%. Compared to two years ago when it was $460, that week’s price was down -$15, or -3%.
In the week ending February 7, 2025, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$435 mfbm. This is up +$10, or +2%, from the previous week when it was $425.
That week’s price is up +$2, or +0%, from one month ago when it was $433.
Madison’s Benchmark Top-Six Softwood Lumber and Panel Prices: Monthly Averages
When compared to the same week last year, when it was $400, that week’s price was up +$35, or +9%. Compared to two years ago when it was $482, that week’s price was down -$47, or -10%.
