RONA Inc. announces that it will identify more than 6,500 products that are made in Canada and that it is increasing its efforts to promote these products in its RONA+ and RONA stores, and online at rona.ca . In doing so, the leader in the home improvement sector, which operates and serves some 425 corporate and affiliated stores in Canada, is responding to the strong demand from consumers and construction contractors who want to prioritize buying local and who are demanding a broader offering of products that are made here, meet construction codes and standards, and are easy to find.

“We already had a very strong offering of products made in Canada. In fact, less than 10% of our supply comes directly from the United States. The challenge was mainly how to make these products known to our customers. For consumers to turn to products made in Canada, they still need to be well identified, well referenced and well showcased. This is where our collaboration with “Bien fait ici” makes sense. Thanks to the close work done with Mr. Darveau and his team in recent weeks, thousands of additional products have been accredited “Bien fait ici”, responding to the desire to bring consumers closer to suppliers offering products made here,” explains JP Towner, President and CEO of RONA Inc.

“RONA’s initiative comes at a doubly pivotal time: the country is facing a crying need to build and renovate while a tariff war is looming with the United States. Our manufacturers need this kind of synergy and visibility more than ever. Let’s hope that homeowners and construction contractors discover Canadian brands and become attached to them beyond the crises,” says Richard Darveau, President and CEO of “Bien fait ici.”

More than 6,500 “Well Made Here” accredited products in store

RONA is reaffirming its support and commitment to suppliers of products made in Canada by strengthening its “Well Made Here” partnership, a program in which RONA has participated since its creation and which offers a distinctive label that is affixed to products to make them easier to identify in hardware stores. In the coming weeks, the company will apply the accreditation to more than 5,000 additional products that meet the criteria of the initiative created by the Association québécoise de la quincaillerie et des matériaux de construction (AQMAT). These products will bear the “Well Made Here” seal, both in-store and online.

To qualify for their products as “Well Made Here,” suppliers have confirmed that their products meet the following three criteria:

  • product complies with codes, regulations and all other legal requirements of the Canadian construction industry;
  • at least 51% of the direct costs of production or manufacturing must have been incurred in Canada;
  • last substantial transformation of a product must also have taken place in Canada.

In the coming weeks, RONA also plans to provide training to its in-store employees so that all of its staff are better equipped to advise customers on “Well Made Here” products.

“More than ever, the legacy of RONA, a company created by independent local merchants, reminds us that we can accomplish great things when we work together. RONA was founded in Canada 85 years ago, our head office is on the South Shore of Montreal, our leaders are all Canadian and we employ nearly 21,000 people across the country. Nearly half of our store network is made up of affiliated stores that belong to entrepreneurs who are well established in their communities and who also employ thousands of Canadians. I am proud to see our teams, suppliers and partners coming together in this period of uncertainty to better showcase local products,” said Mr. Towner.
