COVID-19 Case Confirmed at Irving Sawmill – Valley, NS
Regrettably one of our co-workers at the Irving Sawmill near Truro, NS has tested positive for Coronavirus (“Covid-19”). They have received the proper medical care and are self-isolating as recommended by local health care professionals. We wish our co-worker a speedy recovery and ask that their privacy be respected.
This person’s last shift at the sawmill was on March 22nd, 2020. Upon learning of the diagnosis, our Human Resources team worked quickly to identify potential exposure to others. All potentially affected employees have been notified, advised to call 811 and will not return to the sawmill until further instructions.
Safeguarding the health and well-being of our employees is our top priority.
The mill had already implemented increased cleaning and disinfection measures every day, in addition to social distancing protocols, new protective barriers and personal protective equipment on site.
Upon learning of the diagnosis late yesterday evening, our on-site response team was activated. Areas were closed off for disinfection and cleaning with electrostatic sprayers by experienced fully trained RST and 3rd party personnel who are using Health Canada approved materials.
We’re adhering to the guidance of local Public Health professionals. In communication with Public Health this morning, they authorized that operations could continue understanding the response measures taken by the company and efforts to ensure appropriate social distancing and hand washing.
Together, we are working to keep one another healthy and safe.
