Report: Freeman Lumber of Nova Scotia to Shut Down
According to Canadian news reports, Freeman Lumber (a d/b/a of Harry Freeman & Son Limited) [HQ: Greenfield, NS], announced their closure due to the recent loss of a major customer.
CBC News reports that Freeman Lumber could “no longer afford to operate due to a lack of markets for wood chips following the closure of the Northern Pulp mill earlier this year.” The company is currently “stockpiling wood chips as it processes its remaining log inventory”, but co-owner Richard Freeman said, “it doesn’t make financial sense to keep buying wood when there is no market for the chips.” Furthermore, the decision was a “direct result of the closure of Northern Pulp, which was Freeman’s ‘most critical customer.’ The decision is not related to COVID-19, said Freeman.”
