Obituary: Louis Frederick Kreyer
Lumber company president, ‘a role model for all who knew him’ Louis Frederick Kreyer, 91, of Maplewood, NJ, passed away on October 19, 2021, at Saint Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, NJ.
Lou was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Louis and Adrienne Kreyer on June 5, 1930. He attended James Madison High School in Brooklyn, graduated from The Gunnery School in Washington, CT, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. He served in the United States Army, worked for Dykes Lumber Company for 40 years and was President of the company from 1973 until his retirement in 1995.
During his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, travel, many friends and membership in the Tewksbury Foot Bassets. He was a longtime supporter of Friends of the Shelter, an organization assisting victims of domestic violence. Lou’s love for people was shown through his continual gestures, large and small, that always put others ahead of himself. He was a role model for all who knew him.
Louis is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 64 years; sisters, Nancy McCormack and Adrienne Toland; children, Charles Kreyer and his wife Maria, Melissa Sluyter and her husband Kent, and Carolyn Kreyer, as well as 5 grandchildren.
The family is planning a celebration of his life later this fall. Memorial Donations may be made to Friends of the Shelter, at P.O. Box 23, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. Funeral arrangements were completed by August F Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home, Elizabeth, NJ.
