Report: Aspen Planers Temporarily Shutting Down Mill
According to local news reports, Aspen Planers Ltd. (HQ: Merritt, BC), is curtailing operations at their Merritt mill.
Business Intelligence for B.C. reports that “Aspen Planers has temporarily shuttered its Merritt operations due to B.C.’s “collapsing” forestry industry, putting about 100 people out of work.” AP Group Executive Vice President Bruce Rose noted that, the core problem “is that British Columbia is now the highest cost forest products manufacturing in North America.”
Bruce Rose said, “he does not know when Aspen Planers will open again.”
