EPDs verify sustainability benefits of Roseburg’s expanding lineup of wood products

Extending its longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship and transparency, Roseburg Forest Products has published updated Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) verifying the sustainability benefits of its expanding lineup of innovative wood products.

EPDs provide standardized and independently validated information about the lifecycle environmental impacts of wood products, which helps builders, architects, manufacturers and others make more informed choices in specifying and purchasing sustainable materials that reduce embodied carbon in buildings.

“Beginning with our forests and extending through our manufacturing processes, Roseburg is committed to optimizing carbon capture and storage in the durable lumber and wood products we produce,’’ said Roseburg President and CEO Stuart Gray. “Our EPD reporting validates the benefits of this stewardship for customers who turn to us for the most responsible building materials available today.’’

Modifying the first EPDs published by Roseburg in 2018, the new EPDs certified by UL Solutions provide updated cradle-to-gate environmental data for Softwood Lumber, Softwood Plywood, LVL, I-Joist, Hardwood Plywood, and Medium Density Fiberboard. The updated EPDs can be accessed on SPOT UL (spot.ul.com).

These product-specific EPDs contribute to LEED v4.1 for a total of 9 products from one manufacturer (6 products at 1.5x per product) in support of Materials & Resources Credit: Building Product Disclosure and Optimization – Environmental Product Declarations.

Roseburg was one of the first wood products manufacturers in North America to produce third-party certified Type III Product Specific EPDs that conform to ISO 14040/14044, 14025, 21930, and UL Part B for Structural and Architectural Wood products. The company’s data collection process also allows Roseburg to contribute to industry-wide EPDs and national databases assessing life cycle impacts.
